Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Meets with China's Candidate for the Director-General of the World Health Organization Madame Margaret Chan

On September 17, 2006, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met with Madame Margaret Chan, China's candidate for the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), former Director of Health of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Assistant Director-General of the WHO.

Li stressed that the WHO undertakes the major responsibility for safeguarding human health and the Chinese government attaches great importance to and extends full support for Chan's candidacy. He expressed hope that she will continue to do her utmost for the final success.

Chan said that she will try her best to prepare for the next stage of the election.
